My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching philosophy is based on student-centered education in which students drive and steer their own learning. To paraphrase Confucius, if I give a student the answer to a question, he/she can answer a specific question. But, if I can teach a student how to ask the right questions and learn to seek the correct answers, the student will be more capable for life. Learning is not a single event; indeed, it is a journey. Students all learn in different ways and use different methods, forums, and techniques. I am receptive to feedback, both from the group−class and from individual students. As such, I proactively adapt the medium and leverage technology to help students discover how they learn best. Lectures, discussions, exercises, study groups, online discussions, and online collaboration are options I make available so that each student can find a combination that works best. I am a passionate guide and facilitator; I challenge my students, stretch their horizons, and energize them to look over the next academic or practical hill.
